REGION: Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG – Toscana
GRAPES: 100% Sangiovese
SOIL TYPE: Sand and clay with good presence of rocks.
WINEMAKING: The Winery Marchesato degli Aleramici , established in 1986, near Siena, in Montalcino town where you will find our estate “Il Galampio”. Situated in the locality known as “Pian delle Vigne” this ancient farm is located on a gentle slope that descends from the state forest down towards the Ombrone river. It is produced exclusively with Sangiovese grapes. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperature with a maceration on the skins for about 25 days. Subsequently the wine ages in oak barrels for 48 months and for a further 6 months in bottle.
VINTAGE: 2005 An excellent vintage. Of course, the rain in early September did not do well for the vineyards, disturbing that delicate balance necessary for the final ripening of the grapes and polyphenols. The period of July and August was however quite warm and sunny, even in the presence of days with cooler temperatures and also some rainy ones. A generally balanced meteorological trend which, added to the natural characteristics of the land and the position of the Montalcino territory, foreshadowed a vintage of excellence. This at least until the first days of September and the arrival of the rains which, fortunately, have spared Montalcino from particularly traumatic events capable of destroying the crops and preventing production. The harvest was therefore not compromised, the sun of the last few days allowed the grapes to dry, mitigating the effects of bad weather and also facilitating the harvesting operations.
